
António de Menezes is a globally recognized aviation executive, economist, and strategic advisor with extensive leadership experience across the airline, infrastructure, finance, and academic sectors. Throughout his career, António has held senior executive and board-level positions with leading international aviation organizations including SATA Airlines Group, TAP Air Portugal, EuroAtlantic Airways, PrivatAir, Nieuport Aviation Infrastructure Partners, and Eliance. He previously served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of SATA Airlines Group, where he led one of Portugal’s most historic aviation organizations through a period of fleet modernization, network expansion, digital transformation, and sustained profitability. In addition to his aviation leadership roles, António has built a distinguished academic career as a Professor of Economics at the University of the Azores and has taught and conducted research at institutions including Boston College, Harvard University, and Bocconi University.
Over the course of his career, António has developed a strong reputation for combining strategic vision, operational leadership, and financial expertise to drive growth and transformation within complex international organizations. During his tenure at SATA Airlines Group, he oversaw the airline’s transition from a charter-focused operation to a profitable scheduled network carrier while modernizing the company’s fleet, revenue management systems, and digital infrastructure. Under his leadership, SATA gained international recognition for innovation, operational efficiency, customer-focused technology, and strategic partnerships with global carriers including TAP, WestJet, Air Berlin, and SAS. António has also held executive and advisory positions focused on airline strategy, infrastructure investment, airport development, and sovereign investment advisory services. His work spans commercial aviation, air service development, transportation economics, corporate governance, and international business strategy.
Beyond his executive accomplishments, António is widely respected for his intellectual leadership, global perspective, and commitment to advancing both the aviation industry and academic research. He holds a PhD and Master of Science in Economics from Boston College, a postgraduate degree in Management from the Catholic University of Lisbon, and a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the New University of Lisbon. Throughout his academic and professional career, he has published research in applied economics, finance, and transportation, while also serving on scientific journals and speaking at major international aviation and economic conferences. Through his ongoing advisory work, board leadership, and industry engagement, António continues to support organizations navigating the future of aviation, infrastructure, and global economic development.
